GUTTA-X

The First Playable Sector

One sector, one gun, three enemies, and five layouts tested whether a tiny street fight could sustain real tension.

The first GUTTA-X milestone was deliberately small: one sector, one gun, three enemies, and five ways to arrange the room. Quick layout cycling and restart controls made it possible to ask a more important question than whether the architecture was elegant: did a tiny street fight have enough tension to justify a project?

The five layouts tested different kinds of pressure. Split Cover served as a baseline. Underpass Choke compressed the center. Broken Lot introduced asymmetry around a symbolic car. Scanner Corridor examined sightlines, and Fence Trap used corner pressure with escape routes.

The prototype also established several pieces of feel that later production code would preserve selectively: readable enemy warnings, synthetic audio, camera shake, a black, pale, grey, and red visual direction, and local encounter metrics.

The development ledger records the result as promising enough to continue. The repository kept this prototype separate from production code. It remains a playable reference for feel, not an architecture to copy wholesale.
