Cost Ultrasound turns an app description into a structured planning record before a paid model call occurs. A deterministic analyzer looks for app types and feature signals, the user can adjust the selected feature set, and a static estimator converts that scope into token and provider-cost ranges. The result also carries confidence, warnings, risk factors, and a suggested budget.
Keeping this path deterministic makes the estimate free to run and keeps its reasoning inspectable. It also establishes an honest boundary: the range is a planning aid based on static weights and a pricing snapshot, not a final bill or a measured cost from an actual build.
By the Phase 4 completion commit on 20 May 2026, the estimate could be saved to an owner-scoped project and compared with a locally entered budget. Generation still came later. The sequence made the product's central principle concrete: understand scope and likely spend before asking an AI provider to build anything.
