Worlds That Rarely Meet

Vim, LaTeX, visual editors, and touch interfaces have solved different parts of the same problem. Their strongest ideas deserve to meet.

The debate around editors is often presented as a choice of camps. Vim is powerful but obscure. LaTeX produces beautiful documents but demands a particular way of working. Visual editors are approachable, yet can make precise structural operations feel slow or fragile.

Lynx is not an attempt to place all of their features in one application. That would create another broad editor with several competing personalities. The aim is to translate the underlying insights: command as a language, documents as semantic structures, output as craft, and touch as direct manipulation.

Useful synthesis happens when previously separate traditions change one another. The result should feel like a coherent instrument, not a compromise between camps.
