OnTheMetareverse

Beyond the Electronic Book

A digital book can do more than reproduce pages. The question is whether software can become part of interpretation without displacing the work itself.

OnTheMetareverse begins with a novella, but it is not an e-reader and it is not an adaptation that replaces the text with spectacle. The project asks what happens when the reading environment becomes another voice inside the work.

A narrator comments, classifies, remembers, corrects itself, and asks the reader to notice or retain certain ideas. The visitor participates, but cannot rewrite the canonical outcome. That boundary matters: interpretation becomes interactive while authorship remains intact.

The ambition is not to gamify turning pages. It is to build a literary system in which software performs some of the novella’s own concerns: agency, recognition, memory, and absorption into digital machinery.
